Democrats Earn “F” In New Millennial Congressional Scorecard

Top Millennial Strategy Firm Releases New Scorecard Grading Congress On Millennial Economic Issues

  • Democrats failed in both houses and Republicans earned a “B” in the House of Representatives and a “C” in the Senate.
  • Congress earned a "D" overall.
  • Five key issues were scored: Student Loan Debt, First-Time Home Ownership, Healthcare, Personal Taxes, and Startup Regulation.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Millennial Solution, a leading Millennial strategy firm, released the official “Millennial Congressional Scorecard” ranking the 115th Congress on their Millennial voting record.

Five key issues were scored: Student Loan Debt, First-Time Home Ownership, Healthcare, Personal Taxes, and Startup Regulation.

THE RESULT

Democrats failed in both houses and Republicans earned a “B” in the House of Representatives and a “C” in the Senate. Congress earned a "D" overall.

Democrats and Senate Republicans should be worried about the midterm elections. Millennials became the majority of eligible voters in 2016 and will turn out in record numbers on November 6th (according to a recent Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics study). Candidates that fail to advocate for Millennial prosperity will suffer preventable losses.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE 2018 MIDTERM ELECTIONS

With the balance of Congress up for grabs, The Millennial Solution released their Millennial Congressional Scorecard to give voters and candidates the facts on Millennial advocacy. These five issues areas were analyzed because they best represent the ability of a generation to pursue their American dream.

The experts at Millennial Solution have been studying Millennial motivation for over ten years. They have released four books on Millennial engagement.

DEMOCRATS FAIL MILLENNIALS ON ECONOMICS

The company’s CEO, Brian Bosché, said, “This Scorecard proves that Democrats are all talk. Every time they had the chance to vote ‘pro Millennial,’ they failed big time. They’re doing absolutely nothing to create more economic opportunity for Millennials. If you want to know who’s helping Millennials, it’s undoubtedly Republicans.”

Gabrielle Bosché, the 29-year-old Founder and President of The Millennial Solution, explains, “This scorecard is not only an analysis of how the current Congress is doing. It is a warning to future Congressional bodies: Ignore America’s young generation at your peril.”

NEITHER PARTY REPRESENTS MILLENNIALS WELL

Congress is not making Millennials a priority. However, the experts at The Millennial Solution are optimistic and believe their generation wants to be a part of the solution.

"Politicians have taken Millennials for granted for too long. Congress can't cross their fingers and hope we won't vote anymore. It's time we keep our elected officials accountable for representing our abiliy to pursue the American Millennial Dream," explains Gabrielle.

The full scorecard can be downloaded at www.millennialscorecard.com. It includes policy and bill suggestions for members of Congress to integrate into next session's legislative agenda.

ABOUT THE SCORECARD'S METHODOLOGY

Members of the Senate and House were graded based on their floor votes. We scored Congress’ action (or inaction) on bills that best represented the five economic categories measured in this scorecard. Each issue was given equal weight.

The grading scale used is as follows: Members who voted for Millennials on all five bills received an “A.” Members who supported Millennials on four bills received a “B.” Members who supported Millennials on three bills received a “C.” Members who supported Millennials on two of the five bills received a “D.” Members who supported Millennials on one or zero of the five bills received an “F.”

Members who did not vote or voted against the pro-Millennial policy were scored as voting against Millennials. Members not in office for the full Congressional session were scored based on the bills that they could have taken action on. For example, if a member was in office for only three bills and voted for Millennials on two of those three bills, he or she would receive a "C."
